Introduction to Programming – Grades 3-5 Homeschoolers – Fall 2016
September 14, 2016 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
$120.00Let’s learn to code! This class meets for 1 hour, on Wednesdays, for 6 weeks, September 14-October 19. Kids will learn basic programming concepts such as:
- Algorithms
- Sequences
- Repetition (Loops)
- Events
- Conditional Logic
- Debugging
We will use both online and offline methods to teach the concepts, so children won’t spend the whole time poking away at a computer. Our computer-based activities are based on Scratch, which you can use at home, for free.
This course is geared towards children in grades 3-5, who are very comfortable reading and using a computer. Typing/writing skills are very helpful, but not required, because Scratch is mostly drag-and-drop. Younger kids who excel at reading are also allowed, but might require a parent to stay to help. Older kids who don’t mind being in a class with younger kids are also welcome, and might be provided with some additional exercises if they want to work ahead.
