Introduction to Game Development

January 12, 2016 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

This class meets every Tuesday, 6:45pm – 8:00pm, for 8 weeks: January 12-March 1.

What’s better than playing games? Making them, of course! This class will introduce kids to both programming and game development concepts, using Stencyl, a drag-and-drop game development tool.

Over the course of 8 weeks (10 hours total), we will work on several small projects, using pre-made graphics. We will cover topics such as logic, variables, and artificial intelligence, and will create game elements such as:

  • Hero (player)
  • Monsters (bad guys)
  • Heads up display (score and health)
  • Game controls (on-screen and keyboard)

Each student will receive a flash drive, containing all of the project files required for the class, and will be expected to bring the flash drive with them to each class, to save their files.

This course is recommend for kids in grades 3-8. Younger kids might have difficulty following along, so if you would like to register your younger child, we ask that you plan to stay during the class, to help him or her.

Previous programming experience, such as our Introduction to Programming course, is very highly recommended, but not required, for this course.
