Intro to Programming for Homeschoolers

January 13, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Let’s learn to code! This class meets for 1 hour, every Wednesday, 10-11am, for 6 weeks (January 13-February 17). Kids will learn basic programming concepts such as:

  • Algorithms
  • Sequences
  • Variables
  • Repetition (Loops)
  • Events
  • Conditional Logic
  • Debugging

We will use both online and offline methods to teach the concepts, so children won’t spend the whole time poking away at a computer. Our computer-based activities are based on Scratch, which you can use at home, for free.

This course is geared towards children aged 7-11, who are very comfortable reading and using a computer. Typing/writing skills are very helpful, but not required, because Scratch is mostly drag-and-drop. Younger kids might be able to attend, if they are very confident with their reading ability, but might require a parent to sit with them to help.
