Classes are instructor-led. For most classes, students will follow along with the instructor to complete an activity. Then we give them time to try the activity on their own, with an instructor to help them if they get stuck. Classes are ideal for kids who need more guidance the first time (or two) they try something. There are clearly-stated objectives for each session of class, and instructors will work with the kids to meet those objectives.
Clubs are kid-led. Instructors set the rules, establish the framework for the club, manage the kids, troubleshoot equipment, and provide challenges. As long as they follow the rules and framework, kids can generally do whatever they want within the framework. We encourage kids to explore the possibilities within the framework. They can fiddle with the equipment and materials or they can work through individual and group challenges. We try to keep the clubs fun, but challenging, so kids will push themselves to learn more. Clubs are ideal for kids who love to explore and try things on their own. The objective for each session of the club is to provide a fun, safe environment for kids to explore aspects of science, technology, engineering, arts, and/or math.
